Department for Education Performance Tables:
Wanstead High School going from strength to strength.

The DfE performance tables for GCSE and A level results 2016 are now published.

This confirms the very positive news we had in the summer, but also allows us to see how we compare with other schools.

Every year the DfE puts schools into groups of 55 “similar” schools, based on prior attainment. Last year we were 23rd out of 55 in terms of GCSE performance. This year we are 4th out of 55 similar schools. Our Progress 8 score of 0.50 puts us around the top 5% of schools nationally.

See this link: https://www.compare-school-performance.service.gov.uk/school/similar/102851?phase=ks4

At A level our value added score of +0.10 puts us in the  top 12% nationally, and the second highest state school in Redbridge. We can be confident that our Sixth Form is best placed to meet our students’ needs. More information is available here:

The whole school community should feel rightly proud of these achievements.

Welcome from the Headteacher

As the Headteacher of Wanstead High School, I'd like to welcome you to our website. Whether you are a student, a parent, a prospective parent, or a candidate for a job, I hope that you find this website useful,
and that we can inspire you to want to find out more about our fantastic school.

Wanstead High School is a thriving 11-18 comprehensive school in the heart of the community.

Wanstead High School is at a really exciting time in its development. We have a very positive OFSTED report, improving results, and our staff are totally committed to doing the best for their students. In return the students are keen to succeed.

The key to successful secondary education is to offer a broad and balanced curriculum that is taught well, by subject specialists. That's what Wanstead High School is doing. We are also instilling our students with enquiring minds and strong, positive values that will help them to thrive.

We provide a very strong core of traditional subjects, from Year 7 up to A level, as well as a huge breadth of choice, with some amazing facilities in Performing Arts and Sports. In addition to learning in the classroom, our students also have access to a huge spectrum of extra-curricular activities ranging from after school clubs through to residential trips abroad.

We are committed to providing the very best for the young people in our care, and I am confident we will achieve our vision of providing high quality education with character for all our students.

Mr Bob Hamlyn
